Sahavikas Community College (henceforth SCC) was officially started on Feb 05, 2010 for the purpose of imparting training in industrial and soft skills for the youth of Kandhamal aiming at personal, interpersonal and community growth. The vision of the SCC is to educate, empower and to transform the youth of Kandhamal district of Orissa through training in industrial and soft skills. We believe that soft skill training should go hand in hand with industrial skills training as it helps trainees to become more effective in putting technical knowledge into practice and thus imbibe human and social values along with their industrial/technical skill acquirement. As of now, SCC provides training in Spoken English, Basic Computer Skills (Software and Hardware), tailoring and embroidery.
As a community college, SCC aims at the empowerment of the disadvantaged and underprivileged through appropriate skills development leading them to gainful employment or self-employability in collaboration with the local industry and community.
In the near future SCC would further expand and include more trades for the above mentioned purpose in collaboration with the Industries Department of Govt of Orissa or similar bodies which are committed to the same mission.
The process of registering our courses with the District Industries Centre, Phulbani, is already in the pipeline as we stress on produce oriented skill training to enhance confidence in our trainees. It will also foster our collaboration with local industries.
In the near future SCC intends to start the following trades; driver-cum-mechanic (light motor vehicle), electrician, plumber, welder (gas & electric) and mason based on Modular Employable Skill (MES) with NCVT skill assessment and certification. Once these projects are realised in a satisfactory manner, we could think of adding more trades depending on the need of the community and industry assessed through proper need analysis.
